Graphically is an audiovisual installation, shown at Design Hub Gallery in November 2009 for my final year major project for RMIT. It uses video projection mapping to explore new ways of using digital media and to create new design solutions.

Incorporating architecture as a means for presentation, and as a way of anchoring and recontextualising visual data, video images are collocated over two pyramids positioned on a wall. Each side of the two pyramids simultaneously lights up with video textures, which follow an abstract narrative. The piece starts at a slow pace, the unfurling images suggesting a liquid form. As the piece builds momentum, the textures mapped on the triangles transform. These contrasting substances create new correlations between sound and image.

An exploration into alternative contexts for the moving image, Graphically includes both computer-generated and man-made visuals, thereby encouraging thought into the nature of the visual content and how it is produced.

I was asked to produce a 6 pannel CD design for Margot Leighton's upcoming album launch. They wanted an organic feel. The idea behind the images is about how things change and evolve into new things. This reflected the music on the album.

  • ellis-jones branding
Ellis Jones Rebranding. The idea was to give the existing Ellis-Jones corporate look, a bit more character, colour and a human touch.

  • proposal - graphically
Final year RMIT students had to prepare a formal proposal for their major projects. The printed booklet used three types of paper stock. The idea was to keep it minimal with simple line drawings and black printed text that could be printed easily but would communicate my idea clearly.

I was involved in a few projects at IMAX and the Museum. Some of them were display cabinets for IMAX history and upcoming films. I designed the Museum end of year Christmas party invites and projection during the party. There are also some Laminate floor prints that were made for the IMAX foyer.

  • working title
Working Title is an opening title sequence produced for RMIT graduate screening at ACMI 2009. It was planned, shot and edited in 3 days. The visual idea was to make it look like work in progress and to represent all students with diverse working tools and methods.

  • suggestive space
Suggestive Space is an experimental audiovisual piece. It was shot in the streets of Melbourne and was produced as a second year project at RMIT. The aim behind the project was to create the visuals in response to sound and further, to look into different ways of producing the visuals. Obviously there could be improvements made here, such as better motion tracking.

For the types of images and animation I used a combination of Quartz Composer (visual programming language for mac), and After Effects and illustrator.
